He did think she was cute; he'd thought so for a while. Also fun to be with, sparring or hanging out or just chatting. He could at least somewhat recognize that it was a partial crush, but also genuine admiration--that bit part of why he valued her friendship too.
It wasn't like he hadn't had a crush before--but overall his adolescence HAD been very unusual.
Then she leaned in, nudging him up and he was sure he was bright red and blinking at her in surprise. Then she was kissing him--chaste and simple, and only for a moment but also far too quickly. Never mind that he couldn't thought his face could be redder; that hers was red too only helped slightly.
"I...uh..I..." A blink and a huffed breath in and out. "I...Um...you know I have no clue what I'm doing right? But...I do think you're cute." That last part might've been slightly mumbled, but at least he was looking at her.
