Definitely a kick, and not too different than he expected. Whatever was allowing it to hover was different enough from what he was used to that it took him a second or two. But going fast, and weaving over stretches of flat rock and low sparse-grasses, was familiar. It would be easy to transition from the flat-lands down into canyons too, with rock outcroppings and rivers and water-courses weaving through the stone.
Probably there were caves too, but that wouldn't be something they took the speeder through.
